Dance that takes itself too seriously should sometimes let its subconscious breathe.
Du hasard dans du désordre
(Randomness within disorder in English)
Du hasard dans du désordre is a solo performed by Iban Bourgeois and choreographed by Apolline Saulnier.
This creation is built around the tension between structure and chaos. It questions the virtuosity of the performer, not solely through technical mastery, but through their ability to adapt, associate ideas, and mobilize their imagination in unpredictable situations.
The performer has five choreographic phrases and five body states that form the movement language of the piece. They are confronted with random combinations of these elements, generating an unpredictable process of assembly. The overall structure unfolds in three stages:
an initial sequence, prepared and rehearsed;
a random draw determining a new combination;
an unplanned reinterpretation based on this draw.
Order first emerges through the choreographic construction, the precision of movement, the clarity of intention, and the specific integration of physical qualities. This first section offers the audience a controlled vulnerability: that of a prepared, conscious, and fully engaged body.
The second section shifts towards disorder. The intervention of chance disrupts control over choreographic choices. The organization of space becomes uncertain, transitions become more approximate, and the performer allows their vulnerability in the moment to appear: visible reflections, hesitations, and real-time decision-making. This imbalance is embraced as material. With 120 possible combinations, complete anticipation is impossible , only the present guides the movement.
